A young woman who killed a father-of-three chef in a drunk-driving accident has been released from prison, after serving just three years and four months of a four-year sentence.

Karlie Tomica, 24, was released from Florida jail on Christmas Day.

She pleaded guilty in August 2013 to a charge of DUI manslaughter in the death of 49-year-old Stefano Riccioletti.

Tomica was 20 years old on January 28, 2013, when she struck Riccioletti as she was driving home after a bartending shift at the Nikki Beach Miami.

Riccioletti worked at the Shore Club Hotel and was also on his way home to his wife and kids.

Tomica didn't even stop to help Riccioletti, instead continuing to drive all the way home.

Authorities later found she had three times the legal amount of alcohol in her system - not to mention she was underage.

Before the incident, Tomica described herself on Twitter as a 'party princess'.

She was sent behind bars in August 2013, just days before her 21st birthday.

While she may be out of prison now, her sentence is far from over. For the next two years she will be on home detention and probation for 15 years.

She has also been ordered to serve more than 1,000 hours of community service and speak about the drunk-driving crash to high school and college groups at least five times a year. Her license has also been revoked permanently.

One of Riccioletti's sons has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the club where Tomica worked for allowing the then-underage employee to consume alcohol before the crash.  A petition for a settlement in that case was filed earlier this year.
